Glazed Marble tiles sealing?

I have glazed marble around my tub enclosure and on the walls and floors of my bathroom. My installer said not to seal the marble. What would you suggesgt? We've not used it yet, and want to make sure we get it right! Thanks!!!

Dear Donna:

Glazed marble??... I never even heard of that!

So I will assume that you're making reference to polished marble. (Stone is polished mechanically, by abrasion and friction, like gemstone, not by “glazing” it.)

If that's the cas e, your installer is 100% right.

Not only is it not even possible to apply an impregnator (a.k.a. sealer) to most polished marbles, but in your situation (installed in a bathroom) it wouldn't do you or your stone any good.

Keep in mind that sealers for stone do not offer one iota of protection to the surface of the stone. Quality of the installation and routine care products for your marble are the things that you should be worrying yourself with and that – as it should be intuitive – are vastly more important than the sealing (if and when possible and/pr advisable).
