granite & marble floors

Can I use a home steam cleaner on my granite and marble floors? Does your cleaner clean thinset that was left on too long after installation? If not..does anything-absolute black granite tile

Dear Camilla:

You sure can, providing that you make sure to use distilled water in your machine. Tap water may have chemicals in it that, while harmless when used cold or warm, the can be activated by the high-heat necessary to make steam and became detrimental to natural stone.

If you have grout (or thin-set) residue on the urface of your stone tiles, you have to remove the excess first with a razor blade and then, when you have only a film that you can't even feel under your fingertips, you will finish the job with MB-3.

You can steam the floor with your machine first using only distilled water to "soften" the film of residue. After that you will use MB-3 following the directions. If a floor is large, you may want to consider renting a professioanl-grade floor machine with a red maylon pad, for some scrubbing will be most likely necessary.

A machine like that is available at a Big Box store, or at any janitorial supply company.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,
