Soot marks in limestone |
Article Number: 110 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Sat, Jun 16, 2007 at 12:00 AM |
Naught me had a candle burning too near my limestone fireplace and soot marks went up the side. I wiped them off with washing up liquid which got most off but then wet it - Oh dear!! Marks are now IN the stone. Is there anything I can do to clean the marks out? I live in the UK so not sure if products available here? Thank you!
Dear Claire: This is the list of the ingredients that you need: 1. Good ol' bleach (they do sell bleach in the UK, don't they?... :-)) 2. In the same isle of the supermarket where they carry the bleach, you will also find a product called "elbow grease"! (Get 2 GL of that!! LOL) 3. A laundry brush 4. Lots of patience 5. Masking material to protect everything that could be damaged by bleach, including yourself and your clothes. Once you've got everything ready, make a solution of 3 parts of warm water and 1 part of bleach; get your laundry brush and, by using the "elbow grease" and the patience, scrub, scrub, scrub... You get the picture, right?... LOL
