newly installed marble floor.

Dear MR. Maurizio I am a home owner and just finish install the marble floor in my bathroom, to prevent it from stain, so I put the marble sealer on, and follow the direction on the bottle it said. when the sealer dry and I try to buff it off with soft clean cloth. but I can not get the dull looking residue stain the sealer left behind. it not shine like the pre-sealer stone any more, no matter how many times I try to buff I still can see the dullness. went back to talk to the store where I bought the sealer from, they recommend that I use the stone cleaner and re-realer. and still not work. any advice would greatly appreciate. Thanks. Tang

Dear Tang:

I don't know what product you used, but the directions the way you reported to me sound rather… unusual. Typically, you must remove the residue of the product from the surface of the stone before it has a chance to dry, not after it dried!

That said, the other part of bad news is that it is virtually impossible to seal polished marble. In fact an impregnating sealer must be absorbed by the stone to work and polished marble seldom absorbs anything. Therefore, the residue that you have now sitting on your stone is most likely the 100% of what you applied to it!

How to get rid of it?

Certainly not by using a cleaner!! (But hey, at the store they made another sale!!... :-))

Before you resort to “its majesty” Methylene Chloride, try to sprinkle some of the original sealer on a couple of tiles and then, using a clean white rag, immediately rub, rub, rub, rub until the new and the old sealer are gone. If that won't work, it's Methylene Chloride time!... And if it gets to that, let me know when you do the job that I'm going to move out of the country for a couple of weeks!! (Nasty stuff!!... You can find it at any hardware or paint store.)

After all the useless sealer that had no business being there is gone, you'd better learn how to take care of your stone; and applying a sealer to it is certainly not part of it! Considering how “knowledgeable” they were by telling you to apply an impregnating sealer to polished marble, I highly doubt that you're ever going to receive any intelligence on this subject by the store's staff!!
