Limestone Crema Europa in Shower Stall

Hi, My instaler just finished our walk in shower and I would like to know which sealer is the best to protect the Limestone.Red Guard was used as waterproofing and we used Crema Europa Limestone. Thank You for advice Met.

Dear Met:

which sealer is the best to protect the Limestone.

None. Not even my super-duper MB-4. Stone installed in a wet environment should never be sealed. But it's too late now: you've already applied an impregnator (a.k.a. sealer) to your stone. Let's just hope that nothing bad is going to happen to it because of that. (So really, I wouldn't know what other sealer you have in mind…)

That said, the most important considerations for the successful maintenance of a natural stone shower stall are the following:

1.     the selection of the stone. And yours, I'm afraid, is not one of the best.

2.     The installation. Even the best stone in the world will turn into a sad heap of junk if not installed properly in a ruthless environment as a shower stall.

3.     The maintenance products and procedures, which are paramount – as it should be intuitive – and do not include an impregnator (a.k.a. sealer).

As you can see, from me you're hearing something that completely against the mainstream, although I manufacture what's arguably the best impregnating sealer on the market today. But if you think for a minute, it's the only way of thinking that makes any sense. Choosing the wrong stone and/or have it installed in a non-appropriate way, are problems that could never be solved with some “miracle-in-a-bottle”. But apparently, your current only concern is exactly that one: the sealing thing.

Now, I'm not suggesting or implying that your stall was not installed properly; but sure enough you didn't do much research on the stone to be selected for the project.

And now the usual copy and paste message.

Now remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is – as it should be intuitive – vastly more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about routine care from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic! By logging into the Helpful Hints section of our website at:   http://www.mbstone.com/HH_promo/helpful_hints.htm , you will be able to get the short version of our maintenance guidelines at no charge. The full version of it – a 7-page document considered by many as an industry benchmark – is available in pay-per-download format in our Educational Literature section at:   http://www.mbstone.com/literature/literature.htm .

And remember, every single penny of the cost of the literature will be used to support this site and its cause: your cause.
