cloudy mark on surface of blue pearl granite |
Article Number: 1644 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 12:00 AM |
Q. We just installed a blue pearl granite countertop in our children's bathroom about 2 months ago. Right in front of the sink, there is already a cloudy "stain" showing which is about 3 inches wide. I tried washing the countertop, but it doesn't wash away. Since it's the kid's sink, I don't know what it was that got on the counter, but I would assume it's either toothpaste or mouthwash that missed the bowl. Is there anything I can do to restore the glossy finish to the countertop? The cloudy mark seems to be on the surface, so I am hoping it can be removed.
A. It sounds like a film of some sort is on the surface. Try this first: get #00 steel wool and polish the area. This will not damage the granite and hopefully will remove the film. If this doesn't work you may want to try a marble polishing compound. Although this isn't marble, the abrasives in the compound should effectively polish away the film.
Let us know how you make out.
