UBATUBA PROBLEMS

Hello!!!!! I think my contractor-friend spilled Muriatic acid on my black Uba-tuba granite, it has left a white film, which I am having difficulty removing, how can I do so??? Also, could standing water underneath protective cardboard have done this to the granite, as the contractor thinks????

Dear Steven:

“Black” Ubatuba??... The only Ubatuba I know is green…

Regardless, Ubatuba (charnockite) should not react to Muriatic acid; however, nowadays it is difficult to find a slab of Ubatuba that was not resined by the factory. The resining process can be considered as an overall upgrade of the stone by many aspects, but, alas, like with most anything else in life, there's always the other side of the coin!... :-(

I suspect that the acid affected the resin… but I'm not positive, of course.

The theory of the standing water (for a very long time) under a cardboard may also have some merit if the slab was resined by the factory…

What to do?

You have to consult with a proficient stone restoration contractor in your neck of the wood – nothing else.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,
