hand painted travertine tiles

Q. Is epoxy or urethanes the best choice to seal the surface of hand painted travertine tiles? They were painted with Windsor & Newton fine oil paints and some Miniwax brown oil stains.

A. Well, that depends on a few things like what the location is and how large is the area. I dont have enough info to make an informed answer. If you are looking to protect the paint then probably it is a good choice, but make sure the carriers of the epoxies don't damage the paints. Try a water based urethane but be sure to test first before using it on the real thing. If this is flooring material how much traffic will it bear? If it is on a wall, why even seal it if you can find a safe cleaner.
