What sealer is best for Natural Slate Pool Coping? |
Article Number: 279 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Sat, Aug 4, 2007 at 12:00 AM |
We have a new pool in Sacramento, CA. The pool coping is Golden Plains Natural Slate; the decking is a similar colored salt finished concrete. We use The Chlorine Factory to produce chlorine from salt to sanitize our pool. What sealing product would you recommend we use to seal the natural stone and what about the concrete decking?
Dear Darrel:
I wish all questions were so easy.
The short answer is, none!
Outdoor stone installations should never be sealed. Either the stone is appropriate for outdoors and installed properly, or it is not. If it is, it doesn't need to be sealed and sealing it anyway could actually create problems. If it isn't, no “miracle-in-a-bottle” will ever be able to overcome any possible deficiency in the specification of the stone or its possibly flawed installation.
I'm not really familiar with the slate you have installed (I have no idea about its mineralogy and physical stability), and therefore I can't comment on its suitability.
May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at:

:-)
Ciao and good luck,
Mauri
