Antalya Limestone Flooring

Dear Maurizio Please can you advise me whether it is suitable to use a 12mm thick honed Antalya Limestone 400mm x 600mm tile on top of a 50mm thick conrete screed containing water filled underfloor heating pipes. The floor is to be used in a large hall running through and into a bathroom in a new house. Many thanks for your help. Best wishes Robert

Dear Robert:

By saying limestone you're saying very little – if anything at all. There are many different (and I do mean different) kinds of limestone that span from dense and acceptable rocks, to limestone that will actually fall apart under running water, that will “bleach”, “powder”, discolor and everything in between.

So which limestone do you have?

Sure you have Antalya in your mind…

I'm not 100% sure, but if it is the one that I think it is, I consider that limestone a truly bad disease!

Assuming that I am wrong, then it's a limestone that I know just about nothing about, and in cases like that, I go by a modification of the old saying, “If you can't pronounce it, don't eat it!”. In the case of limestone it goes, “If you don't know for sure that's good, don't buy it!”

How about a hone-finished light-color marble? It sure beats any limestone!

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,

Mauri z io Bertoli
