Blue Barracuda Granite has many fissures

Hi Maurizio, we recently had our new Blue Barracuda countertops installed and I am so unhappy. I was told when we chose this type of granite that it has many fissures. Holy Cow they were right. The thing is some slabs were worse than others and the bad one is on my 9' x 5' island. Is this true about Blue Barracuda? Everyone tells me to let it go but the many fissures "cracks" throughout are driving me crazy. They no longer have anymore slabs to choose from. How do I go about fixing this? Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Dear Karen:

I was told when we chose this type of granite that it has many fissures.

Well, at least they had warned you!...

It's a total shame that they don't resin those slab yet. The resining process – which can effectively be done only by the factory that processes the slabs – would have solved that problem entirely, while permanently sealing the stone in the process. But what can you do?...

If you're lucky enough to find a stone restoration contractor that's familiar with CA glue filling (CA stands for Cyanoacrylate glue, a.k.a. superglue) in your neck of the wood, they could make those fissures literally disappear. If not… Well, you will have to learn how to live with it the way it is, I'm afraid. L

No matter what is going to happen, remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is – as it should be intuitive – vastly more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about routine care from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
