juparana gold and brazilian black

I got juparana gold in my kitchen and brazilian black on the bar countertop. I have read a lot of your postings. Am I correct that you never seal a black "granite"? Does the Juparana needs sealed? It's brand new and the installer sprayed some sealant on it when they installed it. The first night a glass of water left a water stain that eventually went away. Is the M4 the product we need? Thanks, Scott

Dear Scott:

Yes, you're right; black “granite” can't be technically sealed.

As for your Juparana, obviously it needed to be sealed, and the installer did a lousy job at that, as I have to assume by your report…

I really don't know if, under the circumstances, MB-4 would be the product that you need. It might, but it might not. What I mean is that no maker can ever offer any sort of warranty about the performance of their impregnator (unless they don't care and just want to make a sale!...) if it gets applied after the application of a different make. There could be compatibility issues.

My best suggestion to you is to call the installer back and demand that he finishes the sealing job by using the same impregnator he started with, and do it as many times as necessary, ‘til the job is done. (Do read the free article about “A good sealing job” that you will find in the Helpful Hints section at www.marblecleaning.org.)

Now remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is far more important than the sealing itself and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about it from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
