Cleaning a marble floor

Hi Maurizio, A few months ago we installed bianco perlino marble in our foyer. The tile setter said that it did not have to be sealed (as it was already polished). So my first question would be to ask if that is correct. Secondly, what is the best way to clean it? I have been very careful with this floor and have been using warm watee to clean it and drying it right away. Can I get your expert advice on maintiaing a beautiful floor. I will do whatever is best to keep it looking great. Thanks Sandra

Dear Sandra:

The tile setter said that it did not have to be sealed (as it was already polished)

Your tile setter is (partly) right. The stone can't take any sealer in (sealers for stone are below-surface products – if they can stand a chance to go below the surface, that is) due to its high density, but a sealer for stone has nothing to do with the polish. Stone is polished mechanically by abrasion and friction, like gemstone, not be slapping some sealer onto it.

Secondly, what is the best way to clean it?

That's easy: By logging into the Helpful Hints section of our website at:   http://www.mbstone.com/HH_promo/helpful_hints.htm, you will be able to get the short version of our maintenance guidelines at no charge. The full version of it – a 7-page document considered by many as an industry benchmark – is available in pay-per-download format in our Educational Literature section at:   http://www.mbstone.com/literature/literature.htm.
