discoloration of newly installed granite tile countertop

We installed a granite tile countertop this past weekend using a premixed MAPEI brand tile adhesive for Natural Stone and Marble. A couple hours after laying the tile, it started to discolor or darken in spots. It looks very spotting, uneven, and darker than the original color. We have been told many things, but thought maybe it was taking a long time to dry. We hate to have to rip it all up and start all over. Do you have any ideas, thoughts, suggestions? Thank you!

It may take a few weeks (or even better, depending on the stone) but it will eventually dry up. In the meantime you can use your top, but don't even think to apply an impregnating sealer to it until it's completely dry and back to its original color.

Now remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is far more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about it from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
