Deodorant Stain in marble top

Maurizio, I have used your site in the past to successfully remove soap marks on my granite top. Thank you. Here is my newest problem. I have a crema marfil top in my bathroom that was damaged by a leaking gel deodorant. Here is a list of the ingrediants in the deodorant: Active Ingredients: Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex Gly (17.6% w/w) (Purpose: Antiperspirant) Inactive Ingredients: Water, Alcohol Denat., Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Propylene Glycol, Trisiloxane, PEG/PPG 18/18 Dimethicone, Calcium Chloride, Fragrance I have unsuccessfully tried to remove the stain using a poultice consisting of hydrogen peroxide and powder. Any suggestions? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mike Amoia

Dear Michael:

I have a simple question for you: how does your stain look like?

Is it darker than the rest of the stone, or is it just duller?

If it is just duller it means that the stuff etched (corroded) your marble, and it is certainly not by poulticing an actual surface damage – not certainly a stain – that you're going to solve the problem.

If it is etching and if it is not too severe, then a good-quality marble repair kit could do the job for you. If it is too severe, then only a stone restoration contractor could do the job for you by lightly grinding the damaged area (honing) and then re-polishing to match the rest.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,

Maurizio Bertoli
