iron stains on tumbled marble |
Article Number: 1004 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Sun, Jan 6, 2008 at 12:00 AM |
We live on a well and have a tumbled marble shower. The floor and lower walls are iron stained. I admit I have tried iron out on the tile once and it did work but I am not confident to do it again. I have read several of your answers that have aluded to exceptions for well water and sealing the tile -should it be sealed? I called Lowe's where we bought the tile and they referred me to some company but I could not get a sure answer on what to use that would remove the staining. if it has to be professionally handled what is an estimated cost? Thank you.
Dear Kathy:
You can use Iron-Out as many times as you want: it is safe on natural stone. It may slightly etch polished marble surfaces at times, but it is not something that you should be concerned about with tumble-finished stones.
In order to avoid the possibility that some of the rusty water will get absorbed by your stone, the application of a good-quality impregnating sealer like MB-4 is recommended.
Also very important: monitor your grout and caulk lines regularly and address any possible problem immediately: You don't want any of that water go behind and under your tiles!
May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at:

Ciao and good luck,
