horrible pitting around undermount sink

Our Brown Leather granite (5yrs old) is pitting horribly around the edge of our sink. The stone has a very tight grain and it's as if little chunks are falling out. Only 1 place sold it at the time and we paid top dollar for it. Is it a faulty stone or misuse? It was sealed a couple times at install but not since. Help!

Dear Jane:

I never even heard of such “granite”. Therefore I don't even know what stone you have in actuality. I don't even know if such stone – whatever the heck it is – could be technically sealed at all.

I do not accept the possibility of misuse, since no stone traded as granite should behave like that.

So, basically, we go back to this mysterious stone that nobody knows anything about…

Sorry.

You can try to go back to the merchants who sold that slab to you, but it is possible that all you will get is a dance and a song, especially after 5 years. It's worth trying, though…

Which goes to prove one more time that the world needs marblecleaning.org!
