Ubatuba vs Nero

Hi Maurizio, Is either the ubatuba or Nero better than the other? We're building a home and have narrowed down to the two for kitchen countertops. We can't pick the fabricator - the builder has his own nexus - but we can choose the type. The Nero is a black with several flecks of grey - more charcoal grey than black. The Ubatuba is the standard I think with some gold veining (thats what the sample looked like and I'm sure that's totally irrelevant coz it could be different in the slab!) Which way would you go - in terms of quality and ease of use/care. The builder told us that the Ubatuba is more difficult in terms of getting a straight line seam. The edge is never really that smooth and it's hard to cut. Is that true? Does that make it better/worse than the Nero? Thanks! GG

Dear Gayatri:

Personally, if it were my home, I would tell the GC to have his countertops installed in his sister's kitchen. As for my own, I'll take care of it myself, thank you very much. He's the seller, I am the customer – I rule!

Having said that, under the circumstance, it's impossible for me to give you any intelligent advice, because the only possible intelligent advice would be to get your own fabricator and then make the selection of the stones with him or her. Anything different is a gamble, considering how much malicious doctoring on granite slabs is going on out there.
