overhang of granite counter tops

Hello, Last year I had two side by side granite counter tops installed, a sink side and a stove side. The overhang on the stove side is almost 1 inch shorter than the sink side. The installer contends that this is within "industry standards." I think it was just sloppy workmanship as the template makers were in a hurry. (I live in Ohio). Are there really industry standards that say it is okay to have this much of a difference in two counter tops in the same kitchen? If you can help I would be most grateful.

Dear Maya:

If you can help I would be most grateful.

Under the circumstances, I don't really think that I can help you, but if you want a response to your main question, the answer is no: there's no such an industry standard. That “industry standard” that your fabricator invokes is just a wishful figment of his imagination. Tell him to show it written somewhere by some credible industry institution; and if not, tell him to stop taking you for a ride and fix the problem.
