Improper Sealing

Hello, We recently had a honed limestone floor installed. The installer applied enhancing sealer and left sweeping puddles rather than buffing off. Now we have sweeping lines! Is there any way we can fix this? I read your article on stains & 'stains' but was not sure how to proceed. Thanks for any info you can provide. Christine

Dear Christine:

Well, unfortunately, You have neither stains nor “stains”.

You simply have a hardened residue of the color enhancer sitting onto the surface of your stone.

How to remove that?

Hard to tell in a general way, because it much depends on the make of the product.

So maybe it would be best if you get hold of the customer service department of the maker of the product that was used and ask them for advice.

As a general and sure way of removing it – which is the safest and does not involve any nasty chemical – having a professional stone restoration contractor re-honing your floor by using a good-quality honing powder, would be best. But it's not going to be cheap, alas!... :-(

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,
