tumbled marble in shower stall

After seeing spa/shower display at Home Depot which used tumbled marble I thought I would do the same in my tub/shower. Now after the tiling is all done(it looks awesome) I see many postings on the net warning against this product in showers! And also a number of sites where tumbled marble is used in showers(Bob Vila too!) and steam rooms. Will a sealer protect this shower or should cut my losses and convert it into a tub only unit.

Dear Robert:

Cutting your losses?? If the installation was done properly, tumbled marble is among the most rugged and as close to maintenance-free materials that money can buy for a shower stall. I really don't know who gave you those silly ideas, but just forget about them. Being that marble is a dense stone (I bet that you've heard differently!) it won't even require to be sealed. Not to mention tat's never a good idea to seal stone installed in a wet environment. At beast, and mostly for aesthetic reasons, if you like that deeper color that your stone takes when wet, the application of a good quality stone color enhancer like MB-6 will give you that wet-look (without any sheen) permanently. Just enjoy your stall, and learn how to take care of your stone on a routine basis, which, no matter how easy it is, it ‘s vastly more important that the sealing.

As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about routine care from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
