oil stain on |
Article Number: 1608 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:00 AM |
After reading your website extensively, I tried the paper towel.acetone poultice on the oil stain on my new countertop. The oil appears to be gone but the outline of the paper towels and the tape remain. How can I get rid of those? My countertop is Quartzite (Starwood); it has been sealed several times. The fabricator said it should be treated like granite. Is that correct? Any advice will be most appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
Dear Sue:

And which “granite” exactly?... No, it should not be treated like granite. It should be treated like quartzite – even if I never even heard of Starwood Quartzite.
It is quite possible that while removing the stain the acetone reacted and affected the impregnator in the stone; and hence the outline. Applying some more of the same impregnator in the area that your treated should hopefully solve the problem.
All in all, quartzite is not a stone that I feel like recommending to be installed in a kitchen, if one is actually going to us it…

Needless to say, if marblecleaning.org could have its ways, situations like this one would not exist. But we can't do anything by ourselves. We need the support of the consumers to succeed. On that spirit…
