Sealed Travertine Streaky with Dull Spots

Q. Travertine was sealed but has a streaky look with some dull spots when you look in the light just right. How do I fix this issue?

A. My first thought is that the dull spots in the travertine are most likely from the filler that is used in the factory to fill the voids. However, the 'streaky' look could be from sealer that was not completely removed from the surface of the stone. Did you have it sealed by a contractor or did you do it yourself? If you had a contractor do it, I would recommend that you call them back to look at it. If you did it yourself, try this (in the most inconspicuous area first): dampen a rag with some alcohol or acetone and wipe one of the areas that appear streaky.
