Stonemark granite from Home Depot

Home Depot has a new product called stonemark granite with a 15 year warranty againist staining and for material integrity. Would i be better off buying from them since they offer this warranty? They told me it has Permashield to provide the best protection for granite surfaces. Thanks for any help on this subject.

Dear Howard:
Stonemark is the trade name of a manufacturer, not certainly of a granite. So, you never know what granite or "granite" your buying, and whether or not it could be actually sealed. Second, their warranty doesn't cover anything useful and that any other bona fide stone fabricator wouldn't.
In an article I wrote about shopping for a kitchen countertop I was (reluctantly) recommending the Big Box stores. Now, because of their involvement on this thing that I consider nothing but a marketing scam, they made it out of my list.

Do yourself a favor. Go somewhere else. When I smell bull, no matter how good the final product could possibly be, I always do that: go somewhere else. In fact, I would recommend that you locate a good fabricator in your area and take your business there. Go to www.stoneandtilepros and see if there isn't one listed in your area.

Ciao and good luck,
