Travertine tile as Kitchen Backsplash

I just installed 4 x 4 travertine tile as a kitchen backsplash. The tile stone gave me a sanded grout, should I use this or unsanded? When do I apply the sealer, before the grout or after the grout? If after the grout, I guess I'm sealing both with the same product? Any product recommendation? Thanks, Rich

Dear Richard:

Since it's not a floor, you can safely use sanded grout. Just leave a wider grout gap (1/8” or 3/16”).

The impregnator (a.k.a. sealer) has to applied after everything is finished and after a few days to allow the proper curing of the setting material and the grout. Yes, you can use the same impregnator for both the stone and the grout; however, wile it would be more than enough to apply the impregnator only once to the tiles, it would be advisable to apply it two or three times to the grout (you could use a Q-tip).

My recommended brand is MB-4, but remember that what you will be using for routine care is far more important than the sealer! May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm? J

Ciao and good luck,
