Granite Counter Top Maintenance

What can I do to restore the "smooth" finish to our two (2) year old granite (sealed) countertops? I am noticing small holes/pits and can feel them when I run my hand over them? Thanks so much for your help.

Dear Cynthia:
Not much, really. The only thing that you can try to do what the factory did: fill those pits with something temporary. (Unless you caused them by using the wrong cleaning agent. Everybody tells you to seal stone, but very few tell you what to use on a routine basis, which is vastly more important than the sealing, if and when possible and/or advisable.) Do this: rub a stick of paraffin wax over the rough area and then, using a "00" steel wool pad, rub, rub and rub until the surface of the stone is rid of all the wax. If the pit are deep enough to grab it anbd hold it in, the wax would fill them flush.
Another more permanent alternative instead would be to hire a proficient stone restoration contractor and have him filled your pits with CA glue. But you won't be able to find anybody like that easily.

Ciao and good luck,
