Color match caulk

Is it acceptable and practical to use color match caulk instead of grout for granite tile countertops. Referring to the flat tops, not splash. Will it last as long as grout? We're installing 18x25 inch tiles, so not many seams, and we'd love to just caulk it. Also, with big heavy tiles like this, can we use a little epoxy to set these rather than thin set? Thanks, Aaron

Dear Aaron:

Starting with the setting material, yes, you can use epoxy. It is actually a very good idea.

As for the caulk instead of regular grout, not only is it okay, by highly recommended, too! That is what I always advise to use. Caulk is stainless and water-proof; what more do you want?!... J

Of course, regardless of the grout, your stone will need to be taken good care of.
