Jerusalem stone

Is Jerusalem stone a good tile choice for the Kitchen and foyer floors? What should be the approx price range? The one I am interested are 18'x18' tiles at $2.98 sqft in LOEWS . Can I trust that it is good quality? Thanks, Leslie

Dear Leslie:

For a foyer floor it is a good choice. For a kitchen is good choice, too, providing that you understand that it will take more beating than in a foyer and that therefore it will require more maintenance.

As for the Home Depot's degree of quality I'd rather not go there, but my opinion based upon what I've seen all too many times, is that quality and Big Box stores don't get along too well when it comes to natural stone…

Now remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is – like it should be intuitive – vastly more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about it from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
