TERRAZZO FLOORS TO RESTORE OR NOT?

I have an 1800 sq ft house that is all terrazzo and would like to get an opinion on restoration. The floor has several large holes from carpet strips that were removed over the years. Estimates have been as low as 1.50 sq ft but I would like to know the long term benefits. The other option is travertine on top of the whole thing. It feels like a shame to cover it up though.

Dear Vince:
Had you asked me that question a short while ago, I would have told you to go ahead and cover it up with travertine. Why? Because the universally accepted wisdom had it that nobody can match an existing mix of terazzo to make patch-work, and therefore your re-filled holes would look like you-know-what.
However, recently a company from Chicago has deviced a computerized method by which they guarantee the perfect match mix. They don't require big quantities, either: jsut whatever you need! So, now you have your option right there: a bona-fide stone restoration contractor with that mix in his hands will have no problem doing a good restoration job.
Should you be interested at getting the information of that company in Chicago, let me know.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm? J

Ciao and good luck,
