Coca Cola and Granite?

Hello Maurizio, had a question for ya, will a little of unnoticed spilled coca cola etch my Uba Tuba surface? like say a drop or two? just wondering , my husband and I are going back and forth , him suggesting not to have any soda cans on the counter he is affraid some soda may get spilled and un-notcied and may etch the surface of my granite.. any info would be helpful! thanx! chrissy

Dear Chrissy:

The acidity of pop soda drinks (phosphoric and/or citric acid) is usually not enough to etch charnockite. However, certain varieties of that particular stone are rumored to weird reactions with certain acids. They are rare occurrences and, as far as I am concerned, only rumors.

So, why don't find out instead of guessing and arguing?...

Get a piece of scrap of Ubatuba from your fabricator and then spill different sodas on it to your heart content! J

Of course, if the fabricator tried to seal your stone and an invisible film residue of the impregnator that had no business being there was left behind, it may react to the acid and etch. Not the stone, mind you: the sealer. If that's the case, all you have to do is demand your fabricator to remove the useless thing and live happily ever-after!

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
