onyx tiles

hi Maurizio, i have beautiful green onyx 12x12 in my bathroom, i have noticed some are loose and it looks like some of the tiles have changed color becoming white also some are crumbling. can you tell me what is happening and how to fix it. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Dear Myriam:

It's an easy answer and, alas, sad at the same time. Somehow water found its way behind and under your tiles and that is what causing the loosening of the tiles, their discoloration and their rotting away.

Going by your description of the situation it sounds like it's too far gone to try to do anything, but you may want to consult with a proficient stone restoration contractor in your area before getting ahold of that jack-hammer…

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
