sandstone as patio surface

We live in Phoenix, Arizona and are considering using sandstone around our pool instead of cool deck and also as flooring for an adjacent patio area. What are the pros and cons of using this surface. Do you recommend sealing this surface? Thank you.

I have not the slightest idea. By saying sandstone you're saying very little – if anything at all. There are many different (and I do mean different) kinds of sandstone that span from dense and acceptable rocks, to sandstone that will actually falls apart under running water, and everything in between.

So which sandstone do you have in mind?

That said, and hoping that you will pick the right sandstone,

First off, you never seal a surface, but you seal a stone (within). That said, I never recommend to seal any stone installed outdoors and/or in a wet environment.
