How to clean a travertine floor |
Article Number: 942 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Wed, Dec 26, 2007 at 12:00 AM |
I've been using warm water and a mop to clean my kitchen tile floor (I believe it's Travertine tile). Is there a product that can be used other than warm water that's safe for animals to walk on/be around? Also, what's recommended for the grout that's gotten a little discolored over time? Thank you!
Dear Susan:
Well, water alone can do for a few times, but then the dirt is becoming too much for it to handle it.
Of course, a specialty floor cleaner rated for “natural stone” like MB-1 is in order.

A good-quality stone floor cleaner (not a soap – a detergent!) is not going to stay around for anybody to walk on. Once the floor it's dry, that's it! And besides, since when a floor cleaner residue (if any) has been found hazardous to walk on bare foot (or paws)?? I never even heard of anything like that!

As for the discoloration of the grout, if it became lighter than if was originally there's probably a loss of die and it could be adjusted with specific grout coloring agents. If it has become darker instead, it is dirty and a good tile and grout cleaning agent rated “for natural stone” like MB-2 will do the trick for you.

Ciao and good luck,
