cleaning/polishing?/sealing marble floor

I have a marble shower floor small 1 x 1.5 inch bottocino with a .5 inch square green marble in between. I don't think it was ever sealed. Should it have been? It looks dull and water spotty. Is the polishing powder appropriate to use on this? On the floor outside the shower my cleaning person spilled lysol toilet bowl cleaner and when wiped up it left a hazy smeared look. Would you expect the polishing powder to be appropriate to restore this area?

Dear Ruth:

I don't think it was ever sealed

I sure hope not. No stone should ever be sealed I a wet environment.

Is the polishing powder appropriate to use on this?

It depends on the severity of the etching (the dull spots). Sometimes it's enough and some other time it isn't: some light grinding (honing) must be done before polishing.

Would you expect the polishing powder to be appropriate to restore this area?

Same answer as before.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
