Cleaning of Dark Emperdor

I would like to put the dark brown Emperdor in my bathroom along with my shower. They tell me that if you use Tilex or some other clorox cleaner for the mildew on the marble that it will not be good. I guess they are saying it will fade the color. Will it? And if I can not what else can I use to clean the mildew when it happens. I am open to suggestions. Thank you Jill

Dear Harrington:

They tell me that if you use Tilex or some other clorox cleaner for the mildew on the marble that it will not be good

They are right. But what is that they tell you to use instead?… I mean, telling you not to use the wrong products is fine and a first step in the right direction, but don't you think they should also be able to tell you what to use instead, since they sell stone?

Okay, first off, make sure that your tiles are installed properly: even the best stone in the entire world (and Empoerador Dark is among them) will turn out a disaster if not installed properly. Second, make sure that they will not apply any sealer to your tiles. Third, The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is – as it should be intuitive – vastly more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about routine care from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic! By logging into the Helpful Hints section of our website at:  http://www.mbstone.com/HH_promo/helpful_hints.htm , you will be able to get the short version of our maintenance guidelines at no charge. The full version of it – a 7-page document considered by many as an industry benchmark – is available in pay- per-download format in our Educational Literature section at:  http://www.mbstone.com/literature/literature.htm . In there you will find priceless tips on the proper installation of a natural stone shower stall.
