clean & maintain Tropical Brown granite counter

I have always (5-6 yrs) used spra bottle of water with a drop of dish soap and paper towels to clean my counters but now I see finger/arm prints as a problem when people sit at the counters. I tried using more soap and then just water but neither solution works. I tried some tile store granite polish a year or so ago (expensive) but it was a lot of work and made the counter mark more. Could you please tell me what to use? Do I just need a cleaner like the MB 5 or after all this time do I need some type of polish also? Thank you.

Dear Kathleen:

By know you will probably need something stronger than MB-5. You have too much soap scum mixed with the soil that your home-brewed “cleaning” solution was not able to clean to be handled with a routine cleaner like MB-5.

You will have to start with some heavy-duty alkaline cleaner with chelates in its formula rated “for natural stone” like MB-3.

Once your countertop is stripped completely from all the stuff sitting on it, you will start using MB-5 and, oc cas ionally, just to spruce it up and help keeping finger marks at bay, MB-13.

As simple as that! J
