Travertine Filled Holes

Almost 5 months ago we installed travertine in all our house. It was purchase honed and unfilled. The holes were filled with the grout. Now 5 month later we keep finding new unfilled holes. The floor was sealed with an impregnator. Do you have an idea of what could the problem be? Should we fill with grout once more? Also someone mentioned that it is a good idea to add a few drops of impregnator to the moping water once a month. Is it a good practice? Thank you so much for your prompt reply, since we are very concerned with our invesment.

Dear Rafael:

Do you have an idea of what could the problem be?

Yep: the filler is coming off!! J

Joking aside, it is most likely that the grout was kept too weak at the time of the filling. It happens often.

Should we fill with grout once more?

By all means, you should fill those holes. But you will have to “clean” them first and the best way to do that is to use a little rotary tool like Dremel and such with a bit to widen the holes a little bit. Like a dentist with your cavities, to give you an example. After that, I would fill the holes with color-matching caulk, rather than grout. It will give you a much better bond.

Also someone mentioned that it is a good idea to add a few drops of impregnator to the moping water once a month. Is it a good practice?

If idiots could fly, that someone who told you that would never need to buy a new pair of shoes ever again!
