Downloaded and memorized all the "rules"; found a respected fabricator and a respected stone dealer. Decided on Azul Aran. Got a sample. Did the lemon juice, olive oil test - added red wine. Passing grades on lemon juice and olive oil. Big Failure on the red wine. I read on your boards that Azul Aran should be sealed; would consistent sealing have prevented the stain from the wine? I am a tidy housekeeper but also a red wine afficianado.

That what impregnating sealers are all about! Just keep in mind that 100% sealing performance does not exist: even the best sealer will only give you reaction time. The better the impregnator in relation to the stone at hand, the longer the reaction time.

Now remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is – as it should be intuitive – vastly more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about routine care from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
