Granite cleaning with Pledge

One year ago I had New Venecian Gold Granite fitted into my kitchen. Recently I have noticed discoloration/darkening around the polished edges moving into the countertops can this be removed? I have been cleaning the granite from new with Pledge multisurface cleaner. Thanks Anthony

Dear Anthony:

As I was reading the first part of your query I was quite baffled by the description of your staining. I could not figure out what could have caused such an unusual and unheard of… phenomenon. But then, when I read what you've been using to “clean” it for a whole year, all the fog went away and it all became crystal-clear! J

I really don't know if that staining can be removed, for I don't even know exactly what kind of oils that product contains and if they are volatile, if they cure and all that.

But I'm sure that if you call the good folks at Pledge, they will be able to tell exactly what to do. After all, you've been sponsoring them for a year, so they owe you one, don't you think?

And how about your fabricator? Was he perhaps the one who told you to use that stuff to “clean” your countertop?...
(And BTW, I also know exactly why the staining starts from the edges and goes in. But it really doesn't matter at this point, does it?)

Look, Anthony: I know how I may sound to you; but trust me: I am exposed to so many of these “amazing” situations every single day that I'm getting annoyed at hearing them. If you followed the “good advice” of your fabricator you're only the victim. But if you made the decision of using that product on your own (or after listening to some friend or cleaning lady), then, I'm sorry, but it is your fault. No matter what, the solution – if there is one – is not going to be easy.
