Scratches on acrylic finish on marble table

I have a marble table with an acrylic finish that scratches easily from sliding dishes. Is there a way to remove the scratches and, more importantly, preventing the scratches from reoccurring? The table is less than one year old, but the manufacturer has not been able to provide any solutions. Thank You Pat

Dear Pat:

the manufacturer has not been able to provide any solutions.

He's in good company. I don't have the solution, either. Nobody does.

Those kind of topical hard-shell finishes (shellac, mostly) are meant to solve the problem of the sensitivity of marble to acidic substances that can get spilled on it. (All drinks this side of plain water, salad dressing, lemon and orange juice, inappropriate cleaning products, and so on through a virtually endless list, will etch the surface of marble on contact, in a matter of a few seconds.)

As you can tell, the “solution” of that problem, turns out to he a problem itself with no solution. L

Sorry.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
