Slate fireplace care

Hello. We just had installed in our non functional fireplace a slab of black italian slate with a smooth matt finish. My builder advised that I need to rub raw linseed oil into it every second day. I am horrified. What else can I do to maintain the slate which is not so labour intensive? What happens if we don't use the oil? Is using a sealant an option? Please help. Regards Georgia

Dear Georgia:

If people who talk just because they have a set of vocal cord (but no idea of what they're talking about) could fly, your builder would never need to buy a pair of shoes ever again!

Tell him to go on building homes and leave stone issues to someone else.

If you apply a good-quality stone color enhancer like MB-6, you will get the result that you're after and won't have to worry about applying it again for the next 5 years or better!

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
