We recently had travertine, honed and not filled installed throughout a laundry, hall and bath area. We elected to get a little nutty and have the entire shower pan, walls and ceiling done in the travertine as well. Tonight I had a builder friend of mine stop by only to tell me I had royally screwed up with that shower install and was headed for disaster. The installer used a sanded grout and the pattern versaille, has very large tiles that are also on the ceiling. I had inquired at the shop where I bought the tile if the ceiling tiles would be a problem and they had said no. Can you give me any good news tonight or am I looking at a bigger problem down the road?

Your information is too sketchy. The use of sanded grout alone is not a problem. It depends what kind of grout gap he left in between tiles.

Very definitely, you will not have a problem with the tiles in the ceiling of the stall, unless they are not bond well and eventually fall down. But it has nothing to do with the pattern of the grout.

Now remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone.
