Dear Ann:
Well, your stone is not certainly granite, but it is not slate, either. What it is in reality I don't know. Its mineralogy is complex and agglomerated into what is classified as “exotic granite” (whatever the heck that means).
As for he possibility that it could fade while exposed to intense and continued UV light, you're giving me too much credit; I'm not clever to the point (if any at all) of knowing everything about every single stone out there.
What I do know is that a stone that I don't know and have no information available, will never make it into my house just because is pretty.
But hey, maybe it's just me…
What I also do know is that if marblecleaning.org gets its way, such a situation of total ignorance would not exist. But only the “consumers united” can make this happen.
May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?
Ciao and good luck,
Maurizio Bertoli
