slate on countertop

We are planning to use a "polished" i.e. honed level green slate tile on the countertop (Onesta is the company). The supplier recommends a penetrating enhancer, or the use of mineral oil. I would experiment with both before installing, to see which brings out the colour better. I have two questions. Do you have a recommendation between enhancer and mineral oil--including regarding scratch visibility? What kind of grout should be used? Thank you.

Dear Susan:

I don't understand the mineral oil thing, but a color-enhancer is in order.

As for the grout, mu favorite is color-matching caulk (black in this case).

As a general comment, however, considering the kind of material that you have in mind, I sincerely hope that you're going to use your countertop only to hold the telephone you will be using to make reservations or to order take-outs.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,

Maurizio Bertoli
