Very light limestone from Portugal was installed on our bathroom floor and before the grouting process many of the tiles had yellowed, especially along their edges. Contractor said it just needed cleaning, however problem persists after grouting. Grouting did not cause any further yellowing but did result in some white splotches. Contractor then bleached the floor, which took away some of the yellowing but also left sweeping wipe marks from the sponge. What can be done before sealing this product to return it to its very light, almost white sandy color? Thank you.

By saying limestone you're saying very little – if anything at all. There are many different (and I do mean different) kinds of limestone that span from dense and acceptable rocks, to limestone that will actually fall apart under running water or “powder” or “bleach” (all problems with no solution), and everything in between.

So which limestone do you have? And I don't care about some fancy name and where it's coming from: do you have a technical sheet of that particular stone that could tell me the information that I'd need to know?

Somehow I didn't think so…

But hey, I'm sure that the knowledgeable merchants who sold that wonderful stone to you will have every sort of advice for you to solve the problem, so that you can finally seal it and enjoy it. Because, of course, only the gods would know how many horrible things could happen to your stone if you won't seal it in a bathroom floor!... J
