travertine outdoors

any precautions when using travertine tile outdoors without protection and temperatures below freezing? ie. cracking or popping from surface? thx

Dear Steve:

Travertine is tough cookie for outdoor installations and the stone has not much to do with it. The only thing that really counts is the installation. If the pieces of travertine are thick pavers installed on dray-pack or simply sand, you shouldn't have any problem. But if you have it installed in 12” x 12” x 3/8” tile format with thin-set, grout and all that, then all bets are off.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
