terrazzo floors with haze

I clean new construction, the terrazo floors always have a haze that I cannot get off. Do you have a product for this and tips how to tackle this job

Dear Marilyn:

In the stone trade perceived problems may correspond to actual problems, but then again, all too many times they are different altogether.

I highly doubt that the haze that you see is a residue of grout, for terrazzo floors are cast-in-place, don't get grouted and are finished with a grinding grit typically 100.

So, maybe it is a poor workmanship in the sense that the last “polishing” cut was not done thoroughly enough. It could also be that the terrazzo is made out of a “poor” mixture (higher percentage of cement matrix over the marble chips), which detracts from the uniformity of the finish and gives you the impression of a haze. Finally it could also be that someone cleaned that floor with some sort of acidic cleaning solution (water and vinegar, perhaps) that was not appropriate for natural stone. In this case, the solution would have etched the surface of the floor, once again giving the visual result of a haze.

So, I really don't know what to tell you for sure without a physical inspection of the floor.

I don't even know exactly who you are and what you do. Are you the owner of the floor, or are you a maintenance contractor in charge of that floor? And if you're the latter, what kind of experience do you have on stone care?

If you have some experience and the right equipment I may be able to guide you somehow, but if you don't, you'd be better off seeking the cooperation of a reputable stone restoration contractor in your area and consult with them to find out what the real story is with that “mysterious haze” and the best course of action.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
