travertine shower install 18x18 recut to 6x18

tile to be installed in shower with latex modified thin set over 1/2 " durock with isolation /water proof membrane, can i do 1/8 ' sanded grout... and i dont have to seal correct?

Dear Michael:

You could do that, but personally I don't like it.

The wider the grout gap is the more the possibility that the grout is going to crack. Second, sanded grout is much more absorbent than unsanded grout and more difficult to clean.

Not to mention that my very favorite is 1/16” grout gap and the using color-matching silicone-based latex caulk instead of grout: stainless, mildew-resistant, water-proof. What the heck to you want more from grout?... J

And yes, you're right, you don't need to seal, but you still need to get some basic and important intelligence on how to take care of your stone.
