We have just selected slabs of Verde Karzai for new kitchen countertops and an island. We wanted to do the work surfaces (countertops) from a matte slab and the dining area (island) from polished. The supplier (AKDO) calls the matte finish "brushed" - although our sample says "patinato". I'm not sure they are accurately identifying the finish. Also, my husband is concerned that the brushed finish is much more porous than the polished and will stain, making it a poor choice around the sink. Your thoughts?

I have no idea what kind of stone Verde Kar z ai is, but it is my understanding that it is not very porous.

Unlike with calcareous rocks, there is not much of a difference in porosity between a polished slab abd its hone-finished (or brushed, or “patinato” or what-have-you) counterpart. There will certainly be a loss of depth of color, but that can be easily and effectively overcome with the application of a good-quality stone color enhancer that's an impregnating sealer as well, like MB-6 ( http://www.mbstonecare.com).
