Travertine floor

Good day Maurizio, I recently added a master bedroom and bathroom to my house and the new floor is opaque travertine with a shine medallion in the in the bathroom floor. My house keeper is cleaning it with water and vinegar (after vacuum). Is that appropriate? The rest of my floors are Italian tile and she clean those the same way. I don't know if this is correct. Is she damaging my floors? Thank you for your help

Dear Maria Cristina:
Boy, I really thought that, after all these many years, the vinegar thing was finally under control!... I guess not!... :-(

She's probably not damaging the ceramic tiles, but vinegar is acidic and nothing acidic should ever become in contact with any natural stone. Consider yourself lucky if she did not damage the polished finish of your medallion by permanently etching it. If you ask me, vinegar should be used exclusively in the salad bowl and for any other cooking purposes it was designed for!... :-)

Tell her to stop using that concoction effective immediately.

After that, learn how to care for your stone!
